President of Five Wishes


Paul Malley is President of Five Wishes, a program of the national non-profit organization Aging with Dignity, based in Tallahassee, Florida. Five Wishes, dubbed the “living will with a heart and soul,” is the most popular document used by Americans to make health care decisions before a serious illness. The national version debuted in 1998, when Malley began his tenure with Aging with Dignity, and today there are more than 43 million copies of Five Wishes in national and international circulation. It is available in 33 languages and in Braille. The Five Wishes program provides resources and training for individuals, families, healthcare providers, businesses, employers, places of worship, and community groups.

Paul’s commentary on advance care planning, caregiving, aging issues, and improving end-of-life care has been featured on CNN, NBC News, ABC News, and in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Tampa Bay Times, and others.

makes frequent presentations at health and palliative care conferences, including past international events in Australia and Canada, and has testified before congressional and state legislative bodies in favor of patient-friendly advance care planning. He has provided training on advance care planning in clinical settings, including at Johns Hopkins Healthcare, Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, National Institutes of Health, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Long Beach Medical Center, Sparrow Health System, and others. In 2005, he received a gubernatorial appointment as a Florida delegate to the White House Conference on Aging.

Additionally, he served on numerous community boards and advisory groups, including as Board Chair of the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation & Excellence and Treasurer of Leon Friends of Music. He is currently President of the Pastoral Council of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More and serves on the Florida Catholic Conference’s Committee on End-of-Life Care.

Malley holds a Master of Arts in Communications degree from Florida State University. He joined Aging with Dignity in 1998, was named its President in 2002, and was named President of Five Wishes in 2025.
